“An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.”
My love for all things pampering began as a young girl in a small Iowa town. My mom was a very successful "Avon Lady," and in those days that meant a lot of samples in the house of perfumes, lotions, lipsticks, you name it. Mom showed me what it was like to have a small business. I spent many hours helping her on her Avon route, dropping off sales flyers and delivering orders. At the time I didn't know it, but my internal fire for women small business was being kindled.
A few years after graduating college, I found myself managing a Garden Botankia store. Remember, them all you '90s people? I had so much fun trying All. The. Things. It was especially fun to soak in the huge claw foot tub in my first apartment on my own!
Fast forward to 2022 and my love for self-care products has only kept growing. My focus now is on ingredients that are good for us, good for our communities, and good for the planet.
Peonies always make me think of my grandma Vera. She had peony bushes in her backyard and I loved it when they were in bloom. A body lotion that is fragranced with natural scents that come from the earth are the most lovely. Peonies, roses, jasmine, lily of the valley, ginger, orange, lemon, it all depends on my mood when I wake up what I choose to put in my body that day. Thank goodness there are so many choices!
Pampering my mind is just as important as pampering my skin. I LIVE for escaping in a good book for an afternoon or an evening. Whether it is in my favorite coffee shop (here's looking at you Quixotic), on my cozy couch, or out on my peaceful balcony, there are few things in life better than allowing my mind to get swept up in envisioning the characters as they come to life from the pages of a book.
Not just any old choir, but an absolutely excellent choir! Lucky for me, I live in Minnesota, which is known as the choir capitol of the U.S. From Orchestra Hall to cathedrals in Europe, I have the joy of singing in a lot of wonderful places with many talented musicians.Currently, I am in my 25th season as a member of the VocalEssence Chorus in Minneapolis. Come check us out sometime!
